30 March 2026 by Dieuwertje
The Hague is full of activities for children. From museums and movie theaters to the beach just 15 minutes away, these are the best things to do with children in The Hague.

City and kids? Turns out to be a great combination

Because this is exactly where you will find an adventure on every street corner. The Hague, for example, is packed with museums, theaters, restaurants and even shops where your kids can stay entertained for hours, or at least for a little while. And if not, you can always head to the beach at Scheveningen, just fifteen minutes away.

You have probably already done Madurodam and Museon Omniversum. But the Hofstad has so much more to offer. These are our favorite things to do with kids in The Hague.

Kids café for all ages: Binkies in The Hague

At Binkies in The Hague, you will want to stay a while, so make sure you have the time. In this kids café in the city center, children can do pretty much whatever they feel like, besides having lunch. Climb outside, daydream inside at the dollhouse, or enjoy baby gym if they are still very small. Let them do their thing and enjoy a good coffee, a nice sandwich or a loaded snack platter yourself. Or all of the above. With so many play options, you will easily spend some time in this child friendly restaurant.

Let your imagination run wild at the Children’s Book Museum in The Hague

A museum? Yes! The Hague definitely has museums for children, including the Children’s Book Museum. Even the youngest visitors will love it. To be honest, it is more of an experience than a museum and it really sparks a love for reading. At any age.

Little ones dive into the world of Frog at the exhibition I am Frog for ages 0 to 6 and ABC with animals for ages 2 to 6, where characters like The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Miffy and Little Polar Bear appear. Older children head to Paparia where they might come face to face with childhood heroes like Alfie the Werewolf and Pippi Longstocking. Quietly reading a book is something you can do at home, here your kids are encouraged to get involved.

Tip: there are regularly extra events. Check the agenda of the Children’s Book Museum.

Watch nostalgic family films at Flora Film Theater in The Hague

Tired from all the impressions? Settle into the cinema seats of this new addition to The Hague. Flora Film Theater is located on the sixth floor of the old KPN Telephone Exchange in the Energiekwartier. First scoop your own popcorn, which is always a plus, and then enjoy a family film or a classic that you will love too. Think of Pluk van de Petteflet, Pippi Longstocking or Otje. Afterwards, sit back with a glass of lemonade and enjoy the view over The Hague. Such a lovely place.

Remember Café Restaurant Flora next door for when you are in the area without kids. Here you can enjoy delicious culinary dishes.

See the animals at megastore Avonturia

Imagine a place as big as a garden center, but filled only with animals. Avonturia is the largest pet store in the Netherlands and for your kids it feels like a small zoo. Every pet has its own world. Visit the guinea pigs, spot all the colorful fish and take a look at the reptiles, if you dare.

Ready for more adventure? Every Sunday Professor Das takes you on a journey around the world during the Great Mappa Mundia Show. Discover cave systems, adventure trees and even The Hague’s rat sewer. This is not a show where you sit still, your kids are encouraged to explore. Mappa Mundia is also a great tip for birthday parties.

Taste: ice cream at Piet Artisans of Flavour

A day out is not complete without ice cream. That is a fact. At Piet Artisans of Flavour, they turn it into something special. The ice cream makers here create artisanal ice cream with global flavors. Think sticky rice with mango, like the famous Thai dessert, or halva ice cream with sweet sesame flavor dipped in Belgian chocolate. A highlight for adventurous kids. Prefer strawberry? Classic flavors like vanilla and pistachio are available too.

Shop and play at concept store LittleYOU

Concept store LittleYOU truly gets it. While you discover beautiful Scandinavian brands, your little one plays in the huge play corner. You will not hear them for a while. That gives you all the time to browse cool jackets, lovely lamps and toys you will not mind having in your living room. It all looks that good and is high quality.

Afterwards, sit down for a coffee and something sweet, because they have thought of that too. It is no surprise that everyone in The Hague loves this place.

Child plays in the nets at the treehouse club in The Hague

Child friendly restaurant and drinks spot in The Hague: De Boomhuttenclub

A standard play corner does not compare to the wooden play paradise at De Boomhuttenclub. Let your kids roam between the treehouses and wooden train tracks while you relax in the spacious dining area. Because yes, you can eat here too. The menu offers plenty of breakfast options, lunch and snacks. Both kid friendly and a bit more exciting. Eating out with kids can sometimes be challenging, but here among the treehouses it works.

De Boomhuttenclub in The Hague is open until 17:00 on weekends, a perfect place to end your day before heading home. Cheers.

Still have energy left? Head to the beach in Scheveningen
