Ouwehands Dierenpark in Rhenen is a zoo with themed areas, indoor play zones and daily shows. The park is open 365 days a year and has something for all ages, from toddlers to older children.
Pandasia is home to Wu Wen and Xing Ya, the only giant pandas in the Netherlands. The themed area is built in traditional Chinese style, with roof and façade structures made in China and shipped to Rhenen. The total area covers around 9,000 m², of which 3,400 m² is arranged as a panda habitat with separate indoor and outdoor enclosures for both the male and female. In July 2024, Lang Yue was born, the second panda cub of Wu Wen and Xing Ya. Alongside the giant pandas, Pandasia is also home to other Asian species, including red pandas, cuscuses and muntjacs. Pandasia has a restaurant and a panda shop.
RavotAapia is an indoor play jungle of 4,000 m² and 12 metres high. It has a separate toddler area, climbing frames, rope bridges, slides, water and sand play and a pirate ship. The jungle is accessible in all weather conditions. Next to RavotAapia is a restaurant with terrace.
Gorilla Adventure is the largest gorilla experience in Europe. Via rope bridges and a mine shaft, you move at ten metres height through the enclosure of the mountain gorillas. Expeditie Berenbos is home to brown bears rescued from poor living conditions, living alongside wolves on a two-hectare woodland with a waterfall, rocks and a pond. Bridges and viewpoints allow you to walk above the enclosure. The park works with the Bears in Mind foundation for this.
Ouwehands Dierenpark has a daily musical family show by Bamboo Bill and a sea lion show. Current times are listed in the daily programme at ouwehand.nl.
Koalia opened on 25 April 2024 as the first koala habitat in the Netherlands. The Australian themed area is home to koalas and wallabies. In 2025, the first koala baby in the Netherlands was born in Koalia. Ouwehands also has a bonobo habitat (Salonga), a polar bear enclosure with a panoramic window 12 metres wide and 4 metres high, an aquarium and a petting zoo.
Nature conservation and species preservation are core parts of Ouwehands Dierenpark. Through the Ouwehand Zoo Foundation, the park supports projects focused on protecting endangered species and their habitats. Ouwehands is a member of the Nederlandse Vereniging voor Dierentuinen (NVD) and the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), and participates in European breeding programmes (EEPs) for endangered species. Together with the Bears in Mind foundation, the park works to protect bears and their natural habitat, including through Expeditie Berenbos within the park itself.
