Where else but in the creative Amsterdam-Noord would a children's art museum feel at home? In most museums you can only look. At KiMu it's the exact opposite. This museum is all about making: with light, shadows, shapes and colours, but also with real saws and hammers. Not a simple craft corner, but a full atelier where your child's curiosity is the starting point. Theme-free, assignment-free and entirely focused on the process. Your child follows their own path.

In the Atelier of Light, kids aged 3 to 15 explore the natural phenomena of light: shadows, reflection, projection, mirroring, colour mixing and refraction. Not explained with a sign on the wall, but experienced first-hand. And when they need a break: there's a reading nook where you float in a net above the museum. Not something you'll forget quickly.

Every ticket includes a one-hour atelier experience. Can your child participate independently (usually from age 6 or 7)? Then they head downstairs to the atelier, where a staff member is always present. You get to enjoy a good coffee. For little ones aged 0 to 6 there's a specially designed section in the upstairs atelier, where you as a parent or grandparent join in. Sit back, follow the guidance of the facilitator and discover what your child is already capable of on their own. Across the museum you'll also find interactive stations for children aged 0 to 17 — there's always something to explore, try or be surprised by.

Now showing: the exhibition Parallel Processes, in which almost 70 children and three contemporary artists worked side by side for months, without knowing each other's work. No polished final results, but sketches, doubts and new attempts. The real creative process, right there on display. Running until mid-January 2027.

The atelier experience is always included in your ticket. Start times: 10:30, 12:00, 13:30, 15:00 and on Wednesdays also 16:30. Children under 2 enter for free.
