Scheveningen with kids? Discover beach activities, indoor fun, family friendly places to eat and great spots for every season.

Sometimes you just need a breath of fresh air

And that is when the beach of Scheveningen calls, where every day feels like a holiday. Once all the sandcastles are built, there is still plenty to do in Scheveningen with kids. Even without tropical weather. Besides many playgrounds on the beach, you will also find a sea museum, a LEGO world and restaurants where you can get hands on yourself.

And when you have had enough? Within fifteen minutes you are in The Hague or heading into the adventurous dune area of Meijendel. These are our favorite things to do with kids in Scheveningen.

Strandhuis Hito in Scheveningen: simply perfect and there is a craft club

Secretly, this is the real reason you go to Scheveningen. Hito is a warm beach house where you are welcome all year round from early morning until late at night. With a menu that makes you say wow. Think tostada with smoked haddock, Gilda sauce and beetroot, a lobster roll or a burger that is really really good. A bit adventurous, yes, but for the kids there are also simple options. Still with that Hito quality of course.

On Sunday mornings, Hito turns into a craft club called Knutselen met flut decor. Creative fun for all ages. Lovely. Sign up via Instagram.

Build at LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre in Scheveningen

LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre is a must if you have more time or when it suddenly starts pouring rain. Here your kids can build and play for two and a half hours with the colorful bricks that are fun at any age. Yes, also for you. For the youngest visitors there is a DUPLO park and a Pirate Island to climb around.

Finished playing? Recharge in the LEGO cinema or hop on the Imagination Express for a magical ride through LEGO city. How do they come up with it. The entire park is indoors and air conditioned, so what is stopping you. Let’s go.

Surf and eat at Hart Beach

Yes for the little surf boys and girls, Hart Beach in Scheveningen is the place to be. This is where you stand on a surfboard for the very first time. Want more? Hart Beach also organizes birthday parties and surf camps for kids of all ages.

In the restaurant or on the terrace at Hart Beach, you can enjoy more delicious food than you can name all year round. From healthy breakfast like an açaí bowl or sunny eggs to small bites and wood fired pizzas. This restaurant is very child friendly. For the kids there are plenty of smaller dishes like a classic grilled cheese sandwich, pasta pesto or crispy chicken with fries.

Make pizza at child friendly restaurant La Galleria

Pizza always works. But making your own pizza is even more fun. And if you do that at La Galleria in Scheveningen, you do not have to deal with the mess yourself. Perfect for a birthday party or just because you feel like it.

The workshop lasts about one and a half hours and is suitable for children between 4 and 12 years old. First they unwind with a coloring page and then the little pizza chefs get to work. Topping their own pizza and then enjoying it of course. Reservation is required.

This Italian family restaurant is also a great tip with kids without the workshop, as there is a kids corner where they can play while you enjoy your pasta. Perfetto.

Dive into sea life at Museum Muzee

What is actually hiding beneath those wild waves? And where do shells come from? If your children are a bit older, Museum Muzee in Scheveningen is a great choice. Here they learn everything about crabs, squids and other sea creatures you normally only see in Finding Nemo. And for those interested in history, Muzee also shows how people used to live on ships and what a day at the beach looked like a hundred years ago.

For creative kids there is Zeelab, every Wednesday afternoon you can join a free crafting session with the museum teacher.

Child friendly restaurant and play spot: Manta Beach

The big downside of the beach is how quickly you can lose sight of your kids if you are not paying attention. That is why you go to Manta Beach in Scheveningen. Rain or shine, kids can play outside all year round in the playground right in front of the terrace. There is even a trampoline.

The menu offers a mix of familiar and more surprising dishes. From entrecote to aubergine steak or mussels with nduja. Kids can choose from their own menu, including pancakes, always a hit, or fried fish with fries and peas.

And great for a creative birthday party by the sea, kids can search for and decorate treasure chests here.

Climb in the Monkey Forest near Wassenaar

Not exactly Scheveningen, but too fun not to mention. The Monkey Forest, about 20 minutes from Scheveningen in Meijendel, is one big adventure for kids who love to climb. Anything goes here. Swinging, climbing, building huts and racing down the zipline. Unlike a regular playground, this dune area is also full of animals and plants you will not find in your backyard. And it is completely free.

Nature adventure at Dunea Duincampus

While you are in Meijendel anyway. There is an amazing dune campus where young adventurers can discover the dune landscape themselves. A free activity booklet teaches them step by step about everything they encounter in nature. What do the dunes have to do with the water from your tap? And what is so special about the backside of a water scorpion? For children under 6 there is a separate fox trail starting near the Monkey Forest.
